Welcome to Wellness 101

In modern medicine, patients are increasingly looking to treat disease and enhance their overall health at the same time. If you’re looking for a way to get out of a health slump, identifying and treating disease is a great start. In this post, I’m going to offer some tips on how to protect, maintain, and advance your health so that you can live abundantly! The growing body of knowledge we’ve developed from classic Western, Integrative, and Functional medicine is amazing. Researchers are learning more every day about how our bodies work. We can use this information to help us live our lives in a way that maximizes health.

It's important to remember that health is NOT simply the absence of disease. After all, our bodies can have growing cancer cells, hardening arteries, and damaged organs without any symptoms. I experienced this personally when I developed severe neuropathy almost overnight last winter. This gave me cause to wonder what else was going on in my body. I began searching for effective and natural methods to create a disease-resistant environment within me. As one of my role models (my 89-year-old father) tells me, “I plan to be healthy until I die”—and he’s doing a great job!

Health is the synergistic (collective) result of many things, including nutrition and diet, lifestyle, environment, mind-body-spirit connections, attitude, mindset, habits, exercise, relationships, and everything else that impacts our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being (whew, that's a lot)! I am not claiming to be an expert (yet) as I am learning along with you. However, I can offer my medical knowledge and experience to help filter all this new information. I’ll only pass along that which I believe to be factual, proven, and accepted as truth in the Wellness Community. This blog will be a collection of the latest health knowledge and discoveries that I think will be useful. I’ll start by describing and teaching how our current programs work (I’ll be sure to include scientific references for those who are interested). Then, I’ll move on to new terminology, methods, nutrition, and mindset information from research that promotes healthful and abundant living.

I’m excited to share this journey with you and am looking forward to helping those in our community lead happier and healthier lives. Now let us begin…
