RETURN TO THE LIFE YOU LOVE

Spravato is the first FDA-approved nasal spray specifically for adults with treatment-resistant depression (TRD). It provides life-saving results for patients suffering from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). In fact, many patients begin to experience symptom relief within 24 hours of treatment. Dr. Charmaine Ortega and her experienced medical staff are pleased to offer the Spravato program to patients in North Alabama and the surrounding area. patients using SPRAVATO® plus an oral antidepressant demonstrated rapid and superior reduction in depressive symptoms compared to those who received placebo plus an oral antidepressant.

What is Spravato?

SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression; it is also approved to treat depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with suicidal thoughts or actions. It works differently than other medications for treatment-resistant depression and provides new hope to patients.

Today’s most commonly used oral antidepressants are thought to treat depression by increasing levels of neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine) in areas of the brain that affect mood. Spravato targets the

N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor instead. This new approach provides life-saving symptom relief to patients who did not respond to oral antidepressants alone

Who is a candidate for Spravato?

You may benefit from adding SPRAVATO® to your existing oral antidepressant if you’re an adult with major depressive disorder (MDD) who has had an inadequate response to two or more oral antidepressants, known as treatment-resistant depression (TRD).

What will I experience during a Spravato treatment?

After qualifying for Spravato, you’ll have the opportunity to schedule treatments at our Huntsville clinic. During your treatment sessions, our experienced clinical staff will guide you in self-administering the nasal spray of Spravato. We’ll continue to monitor you in our calm and quiet treatment room for two hours, checking for side effects and any adverse reactions. Following this monitoring period, we’ll perform a second evaluation before clearing you to return home with your designated driver. Many patients begin to see improvements within 24 hours.

Is Spravato covered by insurance?

Yes! St. Luke Integrative Medical Center accepts most major insurance providers.
